A Little About Me...
Believe it or not, as a child, I struggled with reading. Fortunately, Mom was a schoolteacher and sat with me every day, helping me learn to read and read well...thanks Mom. While she made sure we studied and encouraged the love of reading, Dad had a flair for storytelling. He would tell us funny, entertaining stories about the farm where he grew up and the places he'd traveled. Oh, how he made us laugh!
As a kid, I enjoyed NANCY DREW MYSTERIES. In junior high we were assigned to read WUTHERING HEIGHTS. I've been a big fan of historical romance ever since, especially stories about rascals, rogues, and tortured heroes.
I've written all my life and won my first writing contest while still in grade school. Later, I worked in jobs that required strong writing skills. Along the way I sang in professional opera and performed in Shakespeare and regional theater. Eventually, I started writing short stories and then novels. The training in theater applied well to character motivation and scene development. I especially love improvisation and the concept of saying 'yes' to a crazy idea and building a scene on the spot. I also find it thrilling when my characters come alive and say or do something outrageous.
Currently, I live in rural New England.
